While I edit both fiction and non, I am best suited to romance and fantasy.

Please email me to request a free sample edit of your first thousand words. This sample edit is important – compatibility between an author and editor is key to success.

Rates:

  • First 1000 words is free
  • The remainder of the book is a 1 cent per word, calculated before edits begin
  • Any follow-up edits are a half (0.5) cent per word, calculated at the beginning of that round of edits
  • A final copy edit (pre-formatting) to check for typos ($150 flat fee which I refund if you find typos in your printed book)

What Your Fee Covers:

  • Developmental edits – tying off arcs, character growth, beats, ways to strengthen plot
  • Spelling, grammar, word choice, character voice, adjustments to point of view issues as needed
  • Video chats to discuss each step of edit process
  • I edit roughly 30k words a week, give or take a day, and I provide timely work

My Process:

  • You email me to request a sample edit. I schedule a day and you send me your first 1000 words.
  • I return it to you the same day, with edits included. This is done in a Google Doc, where you can see my changes and comments. You can comment on them too, or ask questions about word choice and plot issues.
  • If you decide to hire me, you sign a payment contract and I sign a nondisclosure agreement. We then schedule an approximate (NOT guaranteed) start and finish date for edits. Edits are prioritized in the order that writers hire me, so you won’t be pushed behind a more recent request. The only delay in start date would be if a book ahead of you in the queue takes longer than I anticipated or I had a family emergency.
  • When I am 25% of the way through your book, I send you an invoice through Venmo for 25% of the total. Same for 50%, 75%, and 100%.
  • All edits are done in Google Docs, where you can keep track of my work and even participate in the process.
  • When I am 100% done, I will write a summary of thoughts at the end of the doc. This lists any concerns I have with plot or characterization, as well as positive feedback. We schedule a time to do a video conference about the edits.
  • I am available for future video conferences, free of charge, as you work your way through edits.
  • I am available for future rounds of edits at a discounted rate.

Why Me?

  • I was raised by a perfectionistic and narcissistic English teacher. Nothing I did was ever good enough, and my grammar lessons were intense and thorough. I know how to make something the absolute best I can make it.
  • My degree is in Physics. Why is this a good thing for an editor? Because I can sift through a page-long mathematical proof full of differential equations and transforms and all kinds of complex things and find the error. After that, English is a piece of cake.
  • I don’t just know English – I’m a polymath, with a wide knowledge base in the sciences, world politics, history and geography, and foreign languages.
  • I have friends in different fields, so if you have a character who gets stabbed through an eye I can help you describe precisely how that feels, and then if you want to describe the process of testifying against their attacker, I can help you nail those scenes too.
  • I am not intimidated by gore or explicit scenes.
  • I am an avid reader and I’m familiar with current trends.
  • I quit my job to freelance edit, so I want to make sure my clients walk away both happy, and with a better book.
  • I believe in you.
